Trade fairs play a crucial role in greatcontent’s annual calendar, and the general content marketing industry.
These vibrant events allow us to connect with clients in different parts of the world, to present our unique services and demonstrate our skills, and to network with other content marketing professionals to build our knowledge and brand reputation. Without them, the sector would be much less dynamic and interesting – so we make a point of attending multiple events throughout the year.
We’d love to see you at one (at least) of the key industry events of 2020. To help you plan your attendance, we thought we’d provide a quick primer about the year’s most relevant events, where they are, when they take place, and what they have to offer.
Held on 13 February 2020 in the German capital, Berlin, E-Commerce Berlin Expo is a huge event which kick-starts the trade fair season in style. For one day, STATION Berlin on Luckenwalder Strasse welcomes over 7,000 participants to hear keynote speeches from industry experts, meet more than 170 exhibitors, and socialise in the Networking Zone. It’s more than a standard trade fair. It’s an opportunity to hear from Searchmetrics analysts, strategic managers at cutting edge sports marketing companies, retail experts from Shopify and – naturally – content creation specialists like greatcontent.
Scheduled to take place from 17-19 March 2020 in Munich, Germany, the Bavarian leg of the Search Marketing Expo is another essential occasion in our calendar, and well worth attending if you want to know what’s making waves in the digital marketing world. Targeted at any companies that are struggling with content marketing challenges, SMX Munich 2020 will be a hive of innovation, with speakers like John Mueller (Google’s Webmaster Trends Analyst) and Yoast’s Jono Alderson typical of the expertise on offer.
3. Marketing Festival 2020 (Prague)
Easily Czechia’s biggest digital marketing event, MF 2020 takes place from 23-24 April 2020 at the Prague Congress Centre. Targeted at any individuals or brands with a general interest in marketing, the event attracts a diverse crowd, almost all of them seeking clear guidance about what works, and how to refine their 2020 marketing strategies. Expect stimulating and provocative talks from advertising mavens like Les Binet and Peter Field, along with brand connection experts like Dr Helen Edwards or copywriting superstars like Viki Ross. Whatever your marketing needs, it’s a useful place to be.
4. K5 Future Retail Conference (Berlin)
Held on 26 and 27 May 2020 at Estrel Berlin, the K5 Future Retail Conference is close to home for greatcontent, and offers a great chance to connect with clients as the summer season nears. Over 3,500 visitors head to Estrel, alongside 175 or more exhibitors, while the 150 speakers include a diverse array of marketing talent. As the name suggests, expect forward-thinking approaches, and plenty of predictions about where the content marketing scene is headed. There’s an emphasis on German language content production, so if you rely on English or other languages, it may not be the perfect event to attend. But even so, there will be insights aplenty.
5. Web Marketing Festival 2020 (Rimini)
From June 4-6 greatcontent’s events team head to the Italian resort town of Rimini for the Web Marketing Festival 2020 – and it’s far from an excuse to hit the beach (although participants are free to do so when they get the chance). Instead, WMF is a huge expo with over 500 speakers scheduled to appear, and a massive 21,000 attendees. The workshops cover a vast array of topics, from climate change and robotics, to eSports marketing and digital jobs. And the speakers cover almost every niche you could think of. In 2019, speakers explored FinTech, Facebook advertising, citizen journalism, native advertising, and much, much more. So whatever your business area and interests, there’s sure to be a session worth attending.
6. DMEXCO (Cologne)
Moving back to Germany, the Digital Marketing Expo and Conference (DMEXCO) takes place from 8-9 September 2020, and marks the end of summer in style. This professional event is themed around the three core areas of innovation, marketing, and digital business, and caters for an international audience – so it’s not just for German speakers. The idea is to provide insights into the direction of the digital economy, which means mixing up “work labs” with 35-70 participants, with panel discussions, keynote speeches, and hundreds of exhibitor stands. It’s also a place for the global marketing elite to share their wisdom, helping to spread the latest techniques as widely as possible.
7. Digital Marketing World Forum (Amsterdam)
Finally, we head to RAI Amsterdam in November 2020 for the Dutch iteration of DMWF, one of the biggest marketing expo companies in the world. A fitting way to round off our schedule of annual events, DMWF Amsterdam sheds light on “disruptive” technologies and nuts and bolts content marketing challenges. It’s a practical event, where content marketing professionals take centre stage, as 80 or more speakers explain the ins and outs of how to succeed in the digital marketplace. If you want to learn from the brains behind Skyscanner, Vice Magazine, TomTom, and Khoros, or if you want insights from authorities on mobile marketing like Google’s Anna Potanina – scheduling a visit is essential.
Make trade fairs part of your marketing strategy
All of these events represent invaluable chances to connect with marketing professionals who really know how to grow brands and survive in the digital realm. We find that trade fairs help to build confidence and have the courage to make key decisions, while little pieces of advice from experts can sometimes be game-changers.
If you do decide to attend an expo this year, be sure to look up the greatcontent stand. Our team will be happy to say hello and discuss anything related to content creation. And, as ever, feel free to get in touch with any other questions about these events.
